About this event
Come beautify Fall Creek Park’s new butterfly meadow! Learn to sow native seed and plant wildflowers. Get some fresh air and exercise while getting to know your neighbors.
The butterfly meadow is off to a good start—And it also can be improved! Our goal is to increase the ecological benefit of the meadow for butterflies and other pollinator while also increasing its attractiveness and getting a head-start on spring blooms.

About Friday Orientation
The Saturday planting event is preceded by a highly recommended orientation on Friday. During orientation, we will learn about native flowers and grasses and the butterflies they attract, as well as participate in some light training and assign tasks.
About Saturday Planting Event
We encourage, in particular, fit men and women who aren’t afraid to use a shovel to join us! But we will also have tasks available for every age and energy level. If you can’t come for the entire orientation or planting, please come as soon as you can. All volunteers are encouraged to pace themselves and assign their own breaks. We recommend taking at least two or three ten-minute breaks. If we have lots of volunteers, we may finish early. If we don’t finish by 11:30 a.m., we will head home and have lunch and return at 1 p.m. with all who are willing and available.
Saturday–Please Bring:
- A large water bottle (or two!)
- Any snacks you may need for fuel
- Shoes you can get dirty
- Long pants for protection from scratchy plants, sun, and/or mosquitoes clothes
- Long shirt or jacket for warmth and protecting arms
- Work or gardening gloves, if you have them
- Hat for sun protection, sunscreen if needed
- Tools, if you have them, such as a shovel, trowel, pruners, and/or heavy-duty scissors (& extras to share, if you have them)
- A bag to carry all this in
NOTE: Tools not required to participate! If you do bring tools, please add your name to them and to any other items you want to make sure and not lose! No need to bring tools to orientation.
